New Axle & Spings

Got the new axle and leaf springs today, can't hang it until the new fender wells are ready. I had the axle built locally but ordered the springs via the internet so I could use the same hangers without welding new ones onto the frame. Modern leaf springs are typically shorter than what was there originally. The springs also have bigger eye's than typical these days, I still need to solve what to do about bushings that fit.

The springs came from Michigan Truck Spring, this was the only place where /I found an off-the-shelf match to the originals allowing the use of the existing hangers. http://www.truckspring.com/trailer-parts/trailer-suspension/trailer-springs.aspx

I had the axle fabricated locally, lucking out by having a shop in town with an special jig for assembling drop axels. I gave them a sketch with dimensions that I checked about a dozen times. Alternately I could have given them the old axel to match. All together I think I spent around $530, including shipping on the springs. Hanging the axel myself saved at least $150.-
